L.A. infamous hotels and other stories

Cecil Hotel, Barclay Hotel and St. George Hotel should not be included in any Los Angeles travel guide, but they are nonetheless inundated with tourists.

They are ghost-hunter destinations, and the Cecil Hotel was even featured on a Netflix show after the disappearance of a guest in 2013 and many other mysteries.

I talked to the L.A. historian Kim Cooper, one of the founders of the Esotouric tour agency, about those places in L.A. Downtown.

#MeToo Guides New Book from “Bad Behavior” Author

I interviewed American writer Mary Gaitskill about her 1980s classic “Bad Behavior”, a book of short stories on unusual desires and relationships with a seedy New York as a backdrop.

“Secretary”, the most famous story that became a film with Maggie Gyllenhaal, is expected to have a stage adaptation as a musical. Gaitskill also spoke of her most recent work, “That’s Pleasure”, which feels like a return to the characters in “Bad Behavior”, now older and tangled up in the intricacies of #MeToo
